TLI41222 - Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training

This course is delivered as a blend of self-directed at-home learning and assessment, classroom-based activities and practical in-car training and assessment. Optional online tutorials will be available to learners as required.

This course is made up of:

1. Self-directed learning and assessment
   
   Individual self-directed learning provides you with the opportunity to complete research and assessments in your own time, establishing your knowledge prior to participating in the face-to-face component of this program.
   
   Individual learning/ assignment work/ home study includes:
   • Access to our online system for learning and theory-based learning and assessment work
   • Individual reading utilizing our industry relevant Driving Instruction resources
   • Completion of assessments and workbook tasks
   • Case studies and scenarios
   • Practical driving experience using your own vehicle and our thorough learning guides
   
   You will have online and phone access to your assessor with online content and webinars to be provided to you.
   
   
2. Face-to-face classroom based Practical training and assessment
   
   The face-to-face classroom-based component of this program is competency based. How quickly the practical component is completed depends on the amount of self-directed practice that you performed and the knowledge you have acquired during your self-directed learning.
   
   The face-to-face component includes:
   • Group-based reading, preparation discussions and scenarios.
   • Use of logbooks that work through the program content and provide a range of theory and practical activities that build on the self-directed learning.
   • Practical activities that reinforce theoretical knowledge.
   • Practical in-car experiences to demonstrate driving and teaching skills utilizing the Instructor College’s training vehicle.
3. Assessment Methods
   
   • Theory-based questioning
   • Case studies, role plays and scenarios
   • Demonstration of practical skills and competition of a Practical Skills Demonstration logbook

The face-to-face practical component is made up of 2-3 days of practical in-car assessment which aim to complete your program and prepare you to become an accredited driving instructor.

Study Commitment

In order to undertake this qualification, students are expected to commit to a variety of learning and assessment types which include:

• Online self-directed learning and assessment activities
• Online tutorials
• Face to Face classroom-based sessions - If required
• Practical driving experience and assessment

*The amount of training and assessment required is depended on each student’s contribution to their own learning during the independent self-paced component of this program, and their ability to acquire the theoretical components of the program and demonstrate competency.

You will need to successfully complete the following 12 units to be awarded the TLI41221 Certificate IV In Transport and Logistics (Road Transport- Car Driving Instruction).

$3,500 paid in instalments - The first instalment is due upon enrolment and the second instalment is due just before graduation of the course.

To enrol in this course you must hold:

• A current and unrestricted full Australian drivers licence
• Level 3 language, literacy and numeracy skills

In order to become an accredited driver trainer, you must apply to the QLD Department of Transport and Main Roads, and must:

• be at least 21 years old
• hold a valid open class C vehicle driver licence issued in Australia or New Zealand continuously held for at least 1 year immediately prior to applying to TMR***.
• Undergo a Traffic and Criminal History check
• Obtain a Suitability Card (Blue Card) issued by the Queensland Public Safety Business Agency. For more information visit www.bluecard.qld.gov.au
• Successfully complete the TLI41221 – Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Road Transport – Car Driving Instruction) course.

You will be provided with a range of resources to use during your learning and assessment. You will need to supply:

• PC, laptop, internet connection and suitable software for participation in self-directed learning activities.
• Basic stationary.
• Access to vehicle for self-directed driving practice.

You may be eligible for credit or recognition of previous learning if you have undertaken previous Nationally Recognised Training, have experience in teaching learners to drive or have been involved in other training or transport industries.

Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) simply means that your skills and experiences through formal and informal learning will be recognised without the need for full course participation.

This program aims to further develop student’s knowledge and skills in order to create further educational and employment opportunities and to support their goals to develop their own business.
